At the last meeting of GIF Board of Governors which took place in July 2019 it was decided (due to temporary financial constraints) to postpone the opening of the GIF submission website for the upcoming cycle. The new date is still unknown. Please follow our homepage for the new date.

GIF Regular Program
§  Medicine
(Cancer, Immunology, Neuroscience, etc.)
§  Social Sciences
(Economics, Education, Law, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, etc.)

GIF Young Scientists’ Program
§  Medicine  
(Cancer, Immunology, Neuroscience, etc.)
§ Life Sciences
(Biology, Botany, Cell Biology, Genetics, etc.)​

§  Humanities
     (​Archaeology, History, Literature, Philosophy, etc.)
The criteria to define whether a proposal is suitable for a certain submission cycle is the main research question, as well as the methods used by the PI(s) and their scientific background.
This also applies to proposals from related fields and interdisciplinary proposals.
The final decision to accept a proposal for a certain submission cycle rests with the GIF Advisory Committees.
When in doubt whether your proposal fits this cycle, please send an email with an abstract toscience email.png

Supported Areas of Research


In accordance with the goals and objectives established by its Board of Governors, the Foundation supports cooperative research projects of mutual interest to the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel. The projects shall concern science and technology for peaceful purposes only. Both basic and applied research projects in all areas will be considered equally with no predetermined quotas.​​​​​​
