Job Vacancy – GIF Scientific Manager
The German Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research & Development (GIF) is seeking to fill the position of Scientific Manager.
The German Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research &Development was established in 1986 through an agreement between the Ministers of Science of the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Israel, as a means of complementing the continuously fruitful scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. GIF’s main activity is the support of joint and individual research projects conducted exclusively by German and Israeli scientists. Since its establishment, GIF has funded 2,033 projects with a total budget exceeding €265 million.
The position is based in Israel. The candidate should be flexible regarding working arrangements: in-office (Tel Aviv/Jerusalem), hybrid, or remote. Some domestic and international travel may be required.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
• Manage the call for proposals, including the submission and peer-review process.
• Appoint and oversee the work of the members of the Scientific Advisory Committees.
• Prepare scientific materials and manage the Foundation’s Scientific Board and its annual meeting.
• Review scientific reports submitted by all active grantees.
• Develop and update scientific content on the Foundation’s website, including calls for proposals and guidelines.
• Maintain all scientific aspects of the Foundation’s activities across its website and the different portals.
• Identify grants for audits and visits; present them on the Foundation’s website and to external bodies.
• Lead team members in developing written and other materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Must-haves:
• A PhD.
• A team-player and self-starter: organized, detail-oriented, motivated, and independent – takes initiative!
• Fast and efficient worker with a strong sense of ethics and integrity.
• Proven ability to complete projects accurately and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of international peer-review processes.
• Deep understanding of and familiarity with the Israeli scientific/academic environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to interact diplomatically and professionally with individuals at all levels.
• At least five years of experience in grants management or operations in a non-profit or academic setting.
• Excellent computer and internet skills, particularly with CRM and MS Office (especially Excel).
• Excellent command of spoken and written English.
• Hebrew language proficiency – preferably at native-speaker level.
Nice-to-have:
• Familiarity with the scientific/academic environment in Germany.
• Proficiency in German.
