GYSM Meeting “Sovereignty, Entitlement, and Belonging. Jewish Legal Responses to Transition and Crisis in the 20th Century”
Postponed several times due to Covid-19 restrictions, the GYSM meeting “Sovereignty, Entitlement, and Belonging. Jewish Legal Responses to Transition and Crisis in the 20th Century” took place at last on 30 May – 1 June, 2022, at Kibbutz Ma’ale HaHamisha, Israel.
At the interdisciplinary meeting organized and headed by scientific committee Prof. Yfaat Weiss (Simon Dubnow Institute Leipzig / Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Prof. Yuval Shany, Hebrew University of Jerusalem) and Dr. Elisabeth Gallas (Simon Dubnow Institute Leipzig), German and Israeli PhD students and post-docs from the humanities, social sciences, and law explored (Jewish) legal responses to transition and crisis in the age of extremes, as well as the larger topic about the nature of the nation state in relation to minorities in the course of the 20th century. The program also included a keynote lecture by distinguished guest Prof. Dan Diner of the Jacob Robinson Institute for the History of Individual and Collective Rights, Hebrew University of Jerusalem and former Director of the Simon Dubnow Institute in Leipzig.
