STEVE is a workshop on “Security Testing & Verification”, planned to be held in Bochum in September 4-6, 2023. The target audience of the workshop are early career researchers (ECRs). The topics covered include Crypto Implementation, Physical Attacks, Secure Testing Methods and Machine Learning Security.
The workshop will be held at the Beckmanns Hof International Convention Centre at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany, and will feature a scientific program including lightning talks, poster sessions, moderated panel discussions, plenary discussions, scientific speed dating, and a social event.
Motivation
The rapid development of technology has brought about many benefits and conveniences to our daily lives. However, it has also created new security challenges that need to be addressed. Cyber-attacks are becoming more sophisticated and diverse, and the consequences of a successful attack can be severe, ranging from the theft of sensitive data to the disruption of critical infrastructure.
Academic research plays a crucial role in developing the solutions needed to address the security challenges of digital systems. Specifically, through the study of crypto implementation, physical attacks, secure testing methods and machine learning security, researchers can investigate new attack methods, develop new algorithms, and propose novel security architectures that can improve the security of digital systems. Furthermore, academic research enables the identification and analysis of emerging threats, which can inform the development of effective countermeasures.
Early career researchers (ECRs) play a vital role in advancing academic research in cybersecurity. They bring new perspectives, ideas, and approaches that can help address the current and emerging challenges in the field. Moreover, ECRs are the future leaders of the field and can make significant contributions to the development of novel solutions and the training of the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Therefore, it is essential to provide ECRs with the necessary support and resources to enable them to excel in their research and contribute to the advancement of the field.
