Call for proposals for the 2024 Annual German Studies Conference, Israel: Language, Culture, and Society
The Leo Beck Institute invites scholars at all levels, in fields related to German studies to submit proposals for talks and panels to the annual German Studies conference, which will be held on 27 June 2024 in “Anu – Museum of The Jewish People” at the Tel Aviv University’s campus. All disciplines are welcome to submit, including the humanities, social sciences, the arts, and Jewish studies. Research proposals related to contemporary, historical, or broader aspects of the German-speaking world, including from a comparative perspective are also invited to submit.
The goal of the conference is to foster connections, collaborations, and the exchange of ideas among Israeli and international scholars of all career stages within the German Studies research community. Whether in history, the arts, literature, Jewish studies, the social sciences, political science, law, media studies, or any other relevant area of research are encouraged to participate and attend Proposals from any research discipline pertaining to the German-speaking world in any period are invited. We especially encourage comparative and interdisciplinary contributions that place German issues within a global, trans-national, environmental, or theoretical context.
University faculty, post-doctoral scholars, and graduate students are warmly invited to submit proposals. We are interested in significant scholarly proposals, from interdisciplinary perspectives, to contribute to the conference program, which could harbor constructive discussion within a growing scholarly community.
Proposals submitted must include the following:
- Panel: panel title, the names of the three prospective presenters and the sitting chair to regulate and respond to the panel. Please attach an abstract describing the panel’s topic and each talk (up to 1,000 words), along with the CV of each participant.
- Talk: talk title, name of prospective presenter, and an abstract (up to 250 words), along with the presenter’s CV.
Each Talk is limited to 20 minutes, with responses up to 10 minutes, Panels are limited to up to an hour and a half. The deadline for submissions is April 14, 2024. Please send submissions to GermanStudiesIsrael@leobaeck.org
